F. Schubert
Mass in E-flat Major
8:30pm | St. Stephen's Cathedral
Hear Schubert's Mass in E-flat Major at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna celebrating his 225th birthday. With its rich drama and great emotion, Schubert's Mass in E-flat Major has established itself as a masterpiece of 19th-century church music. Schubert composed his longest and largest mass in the last year of his life. The first performance in the Parish Church "Holy Trinity" in Vienna-Alsergrund took place only after his death. "Aspiring to the highest in art" - this is how Schubert is said to have characterized his work.
Under the direction of Gerald Wirth, President and Artistic Director of the Vienna Boys' Choir, choir singers from all over the world will study this masterpiece in several workshops during the Sing Along! Choir Festival. The crowning finale is the performance with renowned soloists and the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra in St. Stephen's Cathedral.
