Listen to the brilliant combination of Bruckner's F minor Mass and Dvořák's Te Deum in St. Stephen's Cathedral. Both works impress with impressive contrasts and also have some stylistic similarities.

Antonín Dvořák composed his festive cantata "Te Deum" in 1892 on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. The work is considered an effective combination of church music and solemn oratorio, and is now being heard in St. Stephen's Cathedral almost exactly 130 years to the day after its premiere on October 21, 1892.

Bruckner's Mass in F minor is undoubtedly one of the most important and demanding works of sacred music literature. The expressive symphonic elements and the skillful use of contrasts in volume and sound are striking. Composed for the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle in 1867, a premiere did not occur shortly after completion, however, because musicians and conductor described the mass as "unplayable and unsingable." The later premiere in the Augustinerkirche in Vienna was exactly 150 years ago this year.

Not at all "unplayable and unsingable" are Dvořák and Bruckner for the performers of the Vienna Cathedral Choir, the Palestrina Motet Choir Tegernsee and the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra, conducted by Domkapellmeister Markus Landerer.

Look forward to a great concert in the beautiful ambience of St. Stephen's!
