J. Haydn
The Creation
8:30pm | St. Stephen’s Cathedral
Listen to Joseph Haydn's The Creation, one of the great musical masterpieces of Viennese classical music.
Written between 1796 and 1798, the oratorio focuses on the creation of the world as explained in Genesis, with the praise of God at its center. Joseph Haydn, already over sixty years old at the time, was very inspired by this theme. However, working on this work proved to be particularly arduous for him and pushed the composer to the limits of his physical and artistic strength.
Join the Vienna Cathedral Choir and Vienna Cathedral Orchestra under the direction of Cathedral Conductor Markus Landerer and renowned soloists to get an impression of the sound of the oratorio in the place where Haydn himself sang for nine years as a chapel boy and later married his wife Aloysia - St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.
