Our Sing Along Concerts in Vienna and Salzburg offer individual singers and choirs the opportunity to perform an important work of choral music in Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral or Salzburg Cathedral in a professionally organized concert. For 20 years, individual amateur singers and choirs from all over the world come to Austria to be part of this unique Sing Along experience.
Under the direction of a renowned choirmaster you will be studying the relevant piece for several days in rehearsals during the Sing Along! Choir Festival. As part of the Sing Along! Festival Choir newly formed for each piece, you will then perform the work together with your fellow international singers, the Cathedral Orchestra and renowned soloists in a festive final concert in front of a broad audience in Vienna's St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

You will then perform them as part of the ‘Sing Mit!’ gospel choir, which will have been formed over the course of those days, accompanied by a jazz ensemble and with Kim Cooper as lead singer, in a grand evening concert at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna.

L. v. Beethoven: Mass in C major
8 to 10 July 2027 | St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna

Registration for "Beethoven, Mass in C major" in Vienna will open shortly!

In the Beethoven Year 2027, come and sing his Mass in C major as part of the ‘Sing Mit!’ Festival Choir at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. To mark the 200th anniversary of L. v. Beethoven’s birth, you will rehearse the very work of which Beethoven himself said it treated the text ‘in a way that has rarely been done before’. It is precisely in Prince Esterházy’s initial rejection that the revolutionary character of the Mass in C major is expressed.

You will work on the piece during the ‘Sing Along!’ choir festival in workshops lasting several days, led by Erasmus Baumgartner, and will then perform it together with the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra and renowned soloists as a gala closing concert at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna.

M. Duruflé: Requiem
15 to 17 July 2027 | St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna

Registration for "Duruflé, Requiem" in Vienna will open shortly!

To mark the 125th anniversary of M. Duruflé’s birth, you can perform his famous Requiem for the first time at the ‘Sing along!’ choir festival, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of its world premiere. In this masterpiece of French church music, Duruflé combined Gregorian chants with magnificent harmonies, thereby creating what is undoubtedly one of the most moving religious works of the 20th century.

Johannes Pell is working with the participants of the ‘Sing along!’ Festival Choir to rehearse the piece, which will be performed as the grand finale at St Stephen’s Cathedral alongside the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra and renowned soloists.

G. F. Händel: Messiah
18 to 20 November 2027 | St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna

Registration for "Händel, Messiah" in Vienna will open shortly!

Sing Händel’s Messiah in English as part of the Sing along! Festival Choir in Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral. The work is still one of the most popular examples of sacred music today. Beginning in the first part with the Old Testament prophecies of the prophets, the second part tells the life of Jesus, his birth, his death on the cross - as the fulfilment of the prophecies - and in the third part with the resurrection, the entire story of salvation in the Messiah.

At the Sing along! Choir festival, you will work on the work in workshops lasting several days under the direction of David Wordsworth, and then perform it together with the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra and renowned soloists as a festive final concert in Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Since the Mozart Year 2006, singers from all over the world have come together every year to rehearse a great work of music history in joint workshops and to perform it in St. Stephen's Cathedral with soloists, choir and orchestra and to contribute to its preservation. The basic idea of the founders Theresa Konrad-Karsten, Herbert Konrad and Gerald Wirth was to offer every singer the opportunity to present a major choral work with a professional orchestra and renowned soloists in Austria's landmarks, St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna and Salzburg Cathedral.

The project was very well received right from the start. Many singers are already real “veterans”. They have been participating for many years in a row. So far, choirs and individual singers from Germany, Greece, China, Malta, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, Japan, the USA, Switzerland and from all over Austria have been welcomed. Gerald Wirth went into well-deserved retirement in 2024. He will continue to support us with his tireless commitment to choral music and his conviction that anyone and everyone can sing.
