This year we honor Mozart in a very distinctive way again – in our Cathedral, during the Salzburg Festival. The Mass in C major, KV 257, was first performed at Salzburg Cathedral. It is commonly known under the name Grand Credo Mass, but was also named Spaur Mass and Missa solemnis for some time.

Singers from all over the world were invited to participate in this grand concert of the Choir Festival in Salzburg Cathedral. Together with the musical director János Czifra the cathedral orchestra and renowned soloists the singers will prepare for the concert which will be especially dedicated to W. A. Mozart. The Mass will be played together with works by Michael Haydn and Leopold Mozart, on the occasion of his 300th birthday. The style of performance will be very unique: as in Mozart’s times the small organs in the front of the church will be used and the soloists will be placed on these organ balconies as well.
