A. Dvořák
Mass in D major
8:30pm | St. Stephen’s Cathedral
Listen to Antonín Dvořák's magnificent Mass in D major, with which the Conejo Valley Choral Society transforms St Stephen's Cathedral into a place of musical devotion.
Dvořák's Mass in D major (organ version) is his most popular work of church music, with a lyrical, melancholy mood and great emotional power. Written out of deep faith, it enchants with its warm, flowing melodies and harmonic richness, which have a special effect in the majestic space of St Stephen's Cathedral. "Faith, hope and love for God Almighty and thanks for the great gift that allowed me to happily complete this work to the praise of the Most High and to the honour of our art" - this is how Dvořák himself praised his work.
The concert will be complemented by Ralph Manuel's meditative hymn "Alleluia", Stacey Gibbs' energetic spiritual "My Good Lord's A Done A Been Here" and William Dawson's anthemic "Soon Ah Will Be Done". Under the direction of Conor Whalen and accompanied by Kevin Su Fukagawa on the organ, a programme ranging from quiet intimacy to overwhelming sonority unfolds.
